NAPBAS 2011

Last week was quite a tiring weekend but an accomplished one as we invited 14 guest bloggers and finalists from China to the biannual Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards 2011, held in Marriott Putrajaya, Malaysia.

It was the first time bloggers from China got to see how thriving the blogosphere was outside of China in the APAC region. There were 12 categories of awards up for grabs that night on Friday Dec 16, 2011 and our Nuffnang China bloggers were nominated for 6 of the 12 awards. They are:

IPIGG.com – best travel blog

Zhuxiaomei.cn – best original blog design

XJP.cc – best geek blog

Yalanbooks.net – best lifestyle blog

Fashiondes.com – best hidden gem

weibo.com/lengxiaohua – best microblog

Unfortunately none of our bloggers here from China won any award but it was definitely an experience for them here in Malaysia. We also invited a bunch of top bloggers in their own right to Malaysia as well:

Jandan.net

APPINN.com

u148.net

qiushibaike.com

hugweb.net

After a very glamorous evening at the awards, the bloggers adjourned for a crazy night of partying at Velvet, Zouk. Then the next day, had a day our touring KL city followed by an evening out at Pavilion and The View @Tanzini, G Tower. On Sunday, we bade farewell to the bloggers and thanked them for coming to take part in making this year’s NAPBAS a success.

All the bloggers now made sure that the next NAPBAS in 2013, Nuffnang China will make a differenceat the awards.

I look forward to that!

Do check out the bloggers’ blogs above to see why they stand out from the rest! For more pictures do check out http://site.douban.com/widget/photos/6238137/

CHS in Beijing

On Zibin’s second day in Beijing, I bumped into this very familiar face in Yigongyishan, a club for rock music bands. From afar, I was looking at him, and was wondering if that was really Zibin, a friend that I haven’t seen for 10 years after high school. I was thinking it would be too small a world to meet someone from the same high school in the same city away from home 10 years after graduation and still look the same.

I went up to speak to him to make sure, and wallahhhh it was Zibin.

Then found out that Aikseng was in town as well, married and with a kid, and doing very well here in Beijing. We had dinner about a month ago.

Then found out Saichow, a senior from CHS, was telling Zibin that he keeps seeing this familiar face (me) at Xiu everytime he goes there. But wasn’t sure if it was me. Apparently I go there too much, according to him, I won’t deny, it’s just across the street.

So finally we decided, that there are too many CHS people in Beijing to not meet up. So we did last Friday and had a blast! Started off with dinner at Malacca Legend and continued on to Spark.

Of course it wasn’t a fully CHS affair. For dinner we had Lynn, Jane, Clarice, Elena, Claire, Robin join us as well in addition to the CHS-ians which included Ting Nan, Favian, and Chet Terng. Was great to meet everyone again and have some familiar Malaysian food.

At Spark, as regular as it seems, we met more Singaporeans (friends’ of Saichow and Elena) there. Oh boy did it get rowdy with the amount of alcohol that was consumed that night. Didn’t remember much of what happened that evening, not sure if anyone did. But have to say, I did have a good time!

Muay Thai in Beijing

Haven’t showed any pictures with me doing Muay Thai before since I’ve been doing it for a while (been showing way more golf pictures haha). Actually started kickboxing in Jan 2007 in Minneapolis, MN when introduced by Nicholas Lee who was then doing this almost everyday, including getting punched in the face every Saturday morning at 9am during sparring after getting smashed/drunk on Friday night. I would wake up at noon on Saturday only to see Nick coming back from sparring session with a blue eye.

So that was where kickboxing started. Then I went back to Malaysia and continued at TNT kickboxing at Desa Seri Hartamas ever since for the whole time until I got to Beijing.

Then when I got to Beijing last September, I had to find another gym to continue working out. So I found this gym called Club Hero but was focusing more on Muay Thai than kickboxing. So that’s where more knees, elbows and roundhouses came in. No more side kicks, ducking, back kicks, hook kicks.

Now I’m at a gym called Battle Club since Club hero closed down and I must admit it’s not cheap for Muay Thai here in Beijing, wasn’t cheap in KL anyway. But it’s a good way to work out without being starred at by gay people at the normal gym.

Not like there’s anything to stare at anyway.
